Learn More About Southern California Public Golf Courses

Although San Diego golf courses and San Diego public golf courses abound, one of the best courses in this warm and wonderful part of California is the San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course.   A public golf course that was once the host to the PGA Tour, today’s San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course has been updated a bit from earlier years, but loses none of its vintage appeal for golfers who take advantage of this wonderful course and book tee times.

The San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course, which opened in 1997 and was designed by Ted Robinson Sr. ,  is built along the scenic San Diego River, and the river plays a large part in the layout of the golf course.   Riverwalk is the only one of the San Diego golf courses that features twenty-seven holes that are par seventy-two.   Created out of three nine-hole courses, San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course abounds with water.   Water is used on half of the twenty-seven holes, and a beautiful waterfall is featured on the signature hole of the course.

Earlier in its history, this southern California public golf course was known by several different names.   In the 1960s the course was known as the Mission Valley Country Club, and later was called the Stardust Country Club before achieving its current name.   In years past, San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course has been the host for the Farmers Insurance Open, which is part of the PGA Tour, although it was formerly known as the San Diego Open.   From the 1960s until the 1980s, celebrity Andy Williams hosted this popular event.

In addition to the San Diego Riverwalk Golf Course, many golfers also spend quality play time at other San Diego golf clubs and San Diego public golf courses.   Popular San Diego golf clubs include the lovely Vineyard at Escondido.   Here you will experience a scenic layout that winds through acres of verdant wetlands with stunning mountain backdrops. Lush, rolling fairways meander along wildlife preserves.   One of the popular San Diego public golf courses is the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club,  With eighteen holes and rated at par seventy-two, many golfers enjoy the amazing views of the Pacific Ocean while playing the wide fairways and trying to stay clear of the bunkers.   Child care is available here, as is a fitness facility, jacuzzi, spa, sauna room and swimming pool, so that the entire family will have an active time here.

Book golf course tee times at these and other top San Diego golf courses easily online.

About Golf

One of the best things about living in shanghai these days is that some really interesting people come through town all the time.   I am lucky enough to have always been invited.   Last night was the big golf charity event hosted by the CocoCola company.   it was the Gary Player Charity Invitation Golf tournament.    If you play golf I am sure you will know who Gary Player is.   He is today 72 years old but for a long long time, he has been on top of the golf game.   He is one of the most famous golf players in the world, being the world champion for 3 years.   He is South African and he is absolutely fantastic. He is in great shape and has more energy than I do. For 25 years, Gary’s charity has raised 25 million dollars.   Last year, in China they raised 1. 5 million.   This year, they raised 4 million.   very impressive.   THis year, they will spend in helping orphans of AIDS parents in China.   I bidded on the membership of a new club in shanghai called MINT. it is an exclusive club that provides very exclusvie services.   I like golfers.   I prefer to have a husband or a boyfriend who is a golfer.   Do you know why?  It is because golfers usually get up real early in the morning to play golf. In stead of staying up late at night to be in KTV places drinking and smoking and doing whatever else they do in KTV bars, they go to bed early.    It is a much better way to life.   Golf courses are just beautiful.   Today in china, there are so many of them and the club houses are really beautiful!  another  thing I love about golfers. . . i find them mostly very people oriented.   They are fun and always laugh and have lots of good friends or what they call “golf buddies” . The game is usually played with others.   Although you do compete with others, you basically are completing against yourself.   You keep your own scores.       Coca Cola was the sponsor last night.   It was really well done.   I enjoyed myself so much. David Wu was the great host.   he is one of the very best in china and comes often to host this kind of events.   he has the ability to flit from English to Chinese really well.   One of the most impressive people in the event is the gentleman who is called Douglas Jackson who is the President of Coca cola in China.    What energy this guy has.   What a sales person.   He is so likable that you will do whatever he wants you to do.   Coca cola is doing very well in china.   I remember now that when I started my TV show on CCTV  in china in 1986, Coca Cola was just starting in China.   One of my first advertisers was Coco Cola!   My dearest friend Serge Dumont who was the UN representative for AIDS in China was the one that invited me to the event.   I also was with ye zhao Ying(???)   who was the 2 times world Olympics of Badminton. and also liang wen zhong who was the first chinese to play in Master Tournament of Golf. This picture is me with Zhang zilin(???), Ms. World 2007.   The next Ms World contest will be in South Africa.  She will go there in December to hand over her crown to the new Ms World. .    She is really pretty.     Another reception I went to today with my beautiful friend Joanna Cappo.   It was the reception hosted by HSBC bank in the Shanghai Fiancial Center for the GOLF Championship.   We were on the 94th floor.   it was the first time I went to the building.   I never liked height.   so being on such height is not my cup of tea.   I felt uncomfortable and felt a bit dizzy a few times.   Do I like the building?  NO.   NO. NO!  it looks like an industrial building.   So gray so uninteresting.   All gray and all metal.   so cold.   Again, not my cup of tea.   Even the uniform of the workers are SO very unatrractive.   all gray and downy even on such young girls.   I am totally NO impressed. What is wonderful tonight was these gorgeous golfers i was with.   Mickelson is the no 2 golfer in the world after Tiger. This is one of the richest tournaments.   They get paid real well to come to china to play.

Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About Golf Balls

Size of the ball

The “Rules of Golf” says that a golf ball’s diameter must be a minimum of 1. 680 inches / 42. 67 mm. A smaller ball would fly much further than a larger ball. The reason for this is simple: with a smaller diameter the ball has less air resistance, or in other words, it displaces less air as it flies. Because of this, most manufacturers produce golf balls with the minimal diameter (1. 680 inches / 42. 67 mm).

Weight of the ball

A golf ball’s weight must not exceed 1. 620 oz. / 45. 93 g according to the “Rules of Golf”. The heavier the ball, the greater its momentum, and the less it would be slowed down by air resistance. Hence it would tend to fly further. For this reason most manufacturers produce golf balls with the heaviest sanctioned weight of 1. 620 oz. / 45. 93 g.

Compression Rates

In the manufacturing process, some two-piece, and all three-piece balls are rated by their compression measurements. This is done by pressuring them with a standard weight

Balls that don’t deform at all are rated Compression 200, while balls that deform by 0. 2” or above are rated Compression 0. These are the two extremes, and between them balls are rated in intervals of 0. 001 inches. The Standard Compression rate is usually 90 or 100. the higher the compression rate the harder the feel, and vice versa. Almost every ball is subject to a compression rating. Compression rates of 80 and 100 are also found.

However, manufacturers are not bound by an official standard. Hence one manufacturer’s compression rate of 100 can be different to another manufacturer’s compression rate of 100. This can mount up to a 3. 5 point difference in either direction. In addition, some balls don’t even have the compression rate printed on them.

According to a host of surveys, low speed swing players are better off using balls with a Compression rate of 80. Players with an average speed swing should choose Compression 100, and Compression 110 is best for high swing speed players.

The weather should always be taken into consideration when deciding on compression rates to use. Low compression balls are best for colder weather, while high compression balls perform better in cold water.

Tips for choosing the right balls for you:

Considerations for Driving

Distance balls are designed to fly further and with more accuracy. This means you will be less likely to land in the rough, in a hazard, or out of bounds. Distance balls have their drawbacks, however, as they will be harder to stop on the green. Mid to high handicappers should favor a distance ball.

Optimum Performance in Your Approach

Spin balls are made with outer layers that take on more spin when you strike them with angled club faces. Drawing or fading around obstacles and hazards therefore becomes easier, as they will bend more to the left or right. They also take on more backspin when struck with a lofted club – this is important, as the balls will therefore stop more quickly on the green.

Whilst spin balls used to be made with fragile outer layers that were prone to damage, this problem has now been largely averted with the introduction of solid multilayer construction, replacing the old flimsy balata covers.

Getting More Control

Distance balls designed to stop quickly when on the green, but with minimum risk of slicing or hooking are known as control balls. The Nike One and Titleist Pro V1 are members of the new generation of balls that are so versatile they will perform in any situation.

Balls for Slow Swingers

Known variously as Ladies or Senior balls, these balls increase driving distance to improve the scores of players with slower, less powerful swings.

Choosing the Right Putting Ball

Differently designed balls will roll for different distances on the green. As a rule of thumb, harder balls role further. The difference is more than you would think. Teaching professionals recommend that you putt with the same kind of ball all the time, as this will help you to calibrate, feel, learn and reproduce the connection between stroke strength and distance. As most balls aren’t perfectly balanced, they won’t roll absolutely true, but higher quality balls will be generally more likely to stay on course, due to higher standards of quality control during manufacture.

Affordability

Try to always play with the same balls that you practice with. So if you can’t afford to practice with a high quality ball, don’t switch when playing competitions. A ball that has been overused will no longer be spherical, and so is no good to you. Play balls that you can afford to replace regularly.
